Having a baby definitely changed me a whole lot. It made me appreciate more my parents, it made me regret the lack of attention I gave to my grandparents (that unfortunately are not here anymore), it made me more concerned about the problems of the world we live in. And it definitely changed the way I edit my pictures.

I remember using A LOT of vintage effects to all my pictures. But after I gave birth to Melody and started taking pictures of her, I wanted to see them as they really were. I still love black & white (and that's not really vintage for me), but I just don't wanna see a picture of her that looks like it was taken in the 50's. Do I still apply those effects to my clients pictures? Yes - because sometimes that effect really works to some images, but I'm doing it way less.

I'm pretty sure many of you that read my blog noticed that change. My brother-in-law actually was one of the first that noticed. I remember posting an E-Session on my Facebook Fan Page last year, a couple of months after I had my baby, and he said, "Did you change your style?", and I just said, "No, of course not!"... but he was right. I just didn't realize at that time.

I just hope my clients from my vintage days still like my work so I can take their pictures when they have babies! :)

So this is Mruna and Kamal's wedding. I'm so lucky to be able to capture weddings from many cultures and I must say I really enjoy Indian weddings - they are so colorful!! Their reception was full of entertainment - they had professional singers, dancers... speeches were very emotional too - that day I could see how Mruna and Kamal are wonderful people.

As a teenager one of my favorite TV shows was Felicity. I used to love the idea of exchanging cassette tapes instead of letters. JJ Abrams writes some pretty good tv series, it's such a pity that they all jump the shark as the series get closer to the end. Till today I still know by heart some of Felicity's lines and there's one that fits what I'm feeling right now - "Sometimes bad things just happen. No reason, no purpose. They just occur and we're left to pick up the pieces the best we can." Before you guys think something awful happened to me, don't worry, I'm okay! It's just that this week has been pretty stressful. But I guess that's just the way it is. Sometimes I do forget I'm a grown up. All in all, I should really be thankful: I get to work with what I love (it doesn't even feel like work!), I get to spend my days with (literally) the happiest baby on the block, and I have a husband that supports me in every single decision I make. So I don't think life can get any better!

Anyways, enough about me. This is Ray and Jennifer. As you might notice, we had this photo session a while ago, since Jennifer would obviously not be able to wear that dress during winter! It was already pretty cold when we shot this, but the images turned out amazing. These are actually their pre-wedding images and they are getting married this February.

January has been a quiet month for me, but my weekends next month are all booked! It was good to take some time off but I can't wait to start shooting again!

p.s.: I don't know if anybody noticed, but I removed that tree from my website background. Finally got tired of it! If you're still seeing it, it might be still in your cache memory; try refreshing the page. If it's still there after doing that, don't worry, what really matters are the pictures. :)

Why not start 2012 with one of my favorite weddings of last year? This is Michael and Ashley's wedding - I've been meaning to post this for a while and now it's finally here! The wedding was last August so I haven't seen these pictures for a long long time... and now that I had to browse through them to pick some to post here, I love them even more. Some of those pictures are even printed and framed in my home office. :) I hope they liked them as much as I did!

Wow, I can't believe this year went by so fast!

A big THANK YOU to all my clients: thanks for letting me capture so many important moments in your life - some of you even hired me more than once!!

I really wanted to post more of my work of 2011, but unfortunately (or should I say fortunately?) I've been working a lot still and I haven't had the time to choose the pictures for my blog.

Thanks again and happy holidays! See you all next year. :)

This probably will be one of my last posts of the year. I'm already deleting my last 2011 photo shoots from my computer and making space for 2012.

I'll be shooting Maria and Dimitri's wedding next May and I really can't wait. I had a great time with them during their E-Session. If I could post all pictures I took from them, I'd definitely would. It was really hard choosing my faves!!

I remember being all happy about creating my brand new website and business cards. After putting everything together, most of my close friends said: "Yuki, don't you think that your website and business card are a bit too creepy for people getting married?" . Friends that weren't saying that, were obviously thinking the same. I know some people might see it that way, but I really love my website, it's totally different from all photography websites I've seen. It's just the way I wanted it to be.

I heard everybody's opinion and decided to make some changes to my page, but not too much - added some kind of rainbow to that "creepy" tree all my friends seemed to dislike, and when I thought about even changing my logo (after getting thousands of business cards printed), I decided that if people won't book me because of that, then it wasn't really meant to be.

There's a coffee shop on Eglinton and Yonge that I used to go often since it was close to my old apartment. Probably half of my meetings were over there and I still meet lots of clients on that same place - I was just there today! Their hot chocolate is pretty good and it's one of those places you can leave your business cards. And although most (probably all!) of my friends pretty much hated my card, at least someone visiting that coffee shop thought it looked good (or at least interesting!). And today, I'm posting her wedding photos here.

You might remember Kit from an e-session I posted a while ago. Definitely one of my favorites e-sessions ever! We got lost trying to get to an amusement park, but in the end, everything worked out and it was totally worth it going there twice. Not to mention they were pretty fun to hang out with.

Kit and Albert had an intimate wedding - the day started with a Chinese tea ceremony, then they exchanged vows in front of family and close friends at the beautiful Discovery Landing in Burlington. The day finished at the Oliver & Bonacini restaurant in Oakville. I think that was one of the last days of summer... that day was really really REALLY hot (and bright).

And look at that gorgeous picture of them printed on canvas. I wonder who took that... hmmm... ;)

The decoration at the restaurant was really cute!! Kit works with design and I can pretty much tell from her wedding decoration that she's great at what she does.

So she came up with a great idea to give the centerpieces. Everybody had to pick an origami square out of a box and whoever got a star in it, was the person taking the centerpiece home. Super kawaii! This brings me back good memories when I used to make those origami squares to decorate my Barbie's houses.

Congratulations, Kit and Albert! It was great meeting you both and I wish you a lifetime of happiness.

p.s.: No, I'm not explaining the Eggplant thing. ;)

Some months ago I posted Marina's maternity photo session. And now I'm happy to introduce you to their baby girl, Melina. She was just 12 days old when we had the photo shoot. Melina is the cutest thing and Marina is already looking so beautiful, after just 12 days of giving birth!! She is definitely one of those women that get that "glow" everybody talks about.

It's 11 am of October 26th - I usually don't write on the same day I post - and I'm editing some pictures from an e-session. The one I had to cancel because of the rain two weeks ago, remember? Looking amazing so far and I'll try my best to post them as soon as I can (who am I kidding? I'll probably just post the pictures next year... lol. Sorry guys, but my priority is actually editing the pictures and uploading them to their private online gallery).

On this post, I want to talk about a section of this blog that usually goes unnoticed: the FAQ. If you're thinking about booking a photo shoot with me, that's a great place that answers most of your questions. There you will find answers regarding turnarounds, editing, my style of work, etc. These things are actually discussed when we meet up or talk over e-mail/phone (and they are also on the agreement you'll sign), but it's always good to check that out beforehand. This helps especially brides, that are usually talking to tons of photographers.

I'm talking about this because, every now and then, after the online gallery is up and you can view how your pictures turned out, I get requests for body modifications - "Can you make me look thinner??". One thing that I always talk in meetings is how I dislike when photographers make clients look like plastic dolls or soap opera stars. I like people looking like themselves. And if you're hiring me as your photographer, it's because you liked my work and trust my point of view. A picture does not need to have a hot model to look amazing. If you go through my portfolio, you'll see all kinds of people - and if you loved them, you need to know that those people over there are exactly like you see in the picture. You know what I dislike the most? When the white of the eyes are so white that if that was actually true I would run like crazy if you knocked on my door looking like that! Of course, as a photographer, I will for sure photograph you using the best angles, the ones that are most flattering to you! If you want to show your wedding pictures and then have people talking behind your back about how you were photoshopped thin, then I'm definitely not your type of photographer.

Now let's actually talk about the pictures on this post! :)

Last summer I had the opportunity to work with Laura and Thomas again. I took pictures of them when they were six months old - you've probably already seen them here in the blog! - and now they are all grown up. But this time, instead of mom and dad, grandma and grandpa joined for some shots as well. :)

Yeap, summer is definitely gone. I must say that I've been a bit lazy when it comes to posting my weddings... writing a blogpost about it means getting my disks, going through thousands of images to pick the ones I need to tell a story, then resizing them, etc. I promised when things slow down during the winter, I'll get back to it.

Just to keep the blog updated, I'm posting a few pictures of a photo session I'm currently working on - this is Lauren, an actress I shot a couple of days ago. I'm also trying to post some of non-wedding/engagement work so people know that photo shoots don't always mean people in love and cute kids. xP

Today I had the day off because of this rain. I was supposed to shoot an e-session, but with all this wind we decided to reschedule. So I'm taking this time to do some updating here!

Some people think I just do weddings and engagement sessions. But I actually shoot lots of family photo sessions and even photo sessions with just one person! So today I'm posting this mother & daughter photo shoot I did last summer. I don't even remember what month this was anymore - I think I'm suffering from mommy brain.

I first met Wenwen when she hired me to take pictures of herself and her husband - if you have patience you'll find my blog post about them somewhere in here. Her mom saw the pictures and liked so much that Wenwen decided to give her a photo shoot as a gift. Although initially the photo shoot was just for her mom, I had to ask Wenwen to be part of the photo shoot as well to get some really nice mom & daughter portraits.
